Beautiful 10 inch Ponderosa Pine log home located on Lake Nantahala, a lake with crystal clear water and gorgeous views. Three of the four bedrooms open to decks overlooking the lake. Lake Nantahala is one of the cleanest most pristine lakes in the USA and 85% of its shoreline is owned by the US National Forest Service. This means the lake is never crowded. Included in the rental is a kayak and a boat dock.This is a great home for relaxing and enjoying the lake views. The log home features four bedrooms and a sleeping loft. Beds include 1 king, 2 queen, and four single beds. The lake views from the great room, deck, and three bedrooms are beautiful and peaceful. This is a great place to spend your vacation! Nearby attractions include trout fishing or whitewater rafting on the Nantahala River, hiking on the Appalachian or Bartram Trails, or golf. We are about 90 minutes away from the Cherokee Indian Reservation and Casinos and the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The cabin is about 40 minutes from the new Cherokee Casino opening in 2014 in Murphy, NC. Lake Nantahala is a true diamond in the rough! At 3000 feet above sea level, the summers are cool and comfortable. You will probably want to use a blanket for sleeping, even in the summer. It is located between Andrews and Franklin, NC in Macon County. It is about a 2 hour drive from Atlanta, Asheville, Knoxville and Chattanooga. There are plenty of things to do in the area. The Nantahala River below Nantahala Dam is a world-famous delayed harvest trout stream. Fly fishers from all over the world come to the Nantahala. Kayaking, Canoeing and Rafting are available as well. The Nantahala River was the venue for kayaking in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Nantahala Lake is known for smallmouth bass, trout, walleye and it has even been stocked with salmon! The Appalachian Trail crosses Wayah Road about 8 miles from the house. The Bartram Trail is even closer. The rafting and kayaking put-in on the Nantahala River is about 15 miles from the cabin, with the takeout point being at the Nantahala Outdoor Center, downstream. The house has lots of room for adults and kids to spread out and enjoy. There are three TVs with Atlanta stations, high speed internet and telephone. An added benefit is that your cell phone won't work here so you can finally get some rest and relaxation! There is a boat dock and a gentle walk down to the dock from the house. The public ramp is less than a mile from the house. Pontoon boat rentals and gas are available at Lake's End Marina which also features a nice restaurant with some good down home cooking. Doug was readily available to contact if needed but we still felt perfectly secluded in the mountains (which is what we were looking for). The cabin is on a private and safe road which is gated. There is also a pool table and many water toys. Rent a boat for the week (or the day) at the local marina (ask for details)- dock it at our large, private dock. Sit around the fire pit in the evenings with your family for a memory filled trip. Plan your wedding at the beautiful wedding venue that is walkable from the house! You can go to the Lake's End Grill (seasonal) which serves 3 meals a day and has a fire pit in the back overlooking the water or have a pizza delivered right to our dock!! On the days you may prefer to be indoors, there is a theater room and a game room with a pool table and separate kitchen. 2 large covered porches and rocking chairs give you the peace and serenity that you are looking for in a lake vacation. There is also a large picnic table with an umbrella and a deck just steps from the water and the private dock. This house is a home, not a sterile rental unit. We want you to feel comfortable in it, so it is furnished and appointed like you would expect a home to be. The beds all have pillow top mattresses with 400 thread count sheets, and the kitchen is fully stocked. Most homes on Lake Nantahala have 75 to over 100 steps down a steep bank to the lake. Our home has a very gradual path from the dock to the house. We have guests who have stayed elsewhere with many steps to the lake and we always get comments as to what a relief this house is. Be sure to ask how many steps there are to the lake before you rent. Our lakeside deck is the perfect place to relax, eat dinner, watch the children swim, and roast marshmallows at night in the fire pit area. Our home has central heat and air, but because it is located at over 3000 feet of elevation you rarely need the air conditioning. Once you experience Lake Nantahala, vacationing on any other lake becomes out of the question. Bring your fishing gear and fish the lake or fly fish on the Nantahala River. The river hosted the 2011 USA National Fly Fishing Championships. The river is located less than 15 minutes from our home. A North Carolina fishing license and trout stamp is required, which you can get online or nearby at Bryant’s Bait & Tackle Shop. Excellent class II-III whitewater rafting is located about twenty-five minutes from our home at the Nantahala Outdoor Center - voted by Good Morning America and National Geographic Adventure Magazine as the #1 family vacation spot in America. There is also some amazing ziplining - including a 1/2 mile zipline through the beautiful Nantahala gorge! The Nantahala River hosted the 2013 World Freestyle Kayaking Championships with athletes from over 50 Countries participating. The Rivers End Café is located there, where you can sit on the river’s edge and watch the kayakers and rafters and enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner. We offer a large kitchen, dining room, two large fully-furnished family/rec rooms and 3 full+1 half bath. We can sleep 12 comfortably. We have Frontier DSL high speed internet and satellite [DirecTV] with streaming capabilities. Lower rec room has bar area, billiard room, and 2 bedrooms (perfect for the younger family members as it has 2 bedrooms and can sleep 6). The side of the house facing the lake has 2 large covered porches and a private dock. We also have an outdoor gas griddle available. In 2020, we completed an outdoor covered party deck [16 x 22] with an outdoor wood-burning fireplace for gathering and entertaining. Our two kayaks, canoe, paddleboat, paddleboards and 8-person 30 hp pontoon boat (refurbished in 2018 and included in rental during Summer season-subject to operational availability at time of rental) are available for guest use and enjoyment. It is furnished and appointed like you would expect a home to be. The beds all have pillow top mattresses with quilted comforters. Kitchen includes plenty of dishes, cookware, utensils. Appliances: electric range, large refrigerator, wine cooler, microwave, coffee pot and other small kitchen appliances. Our home has a very gradual path of about 70 feet with new, wide safe steps from the dock to the basement level of the house which also lead to the new covered party deck built in 2020. It's cozy, clean and right on Lake Nantahala, one of the highest and cleanest lakes in the Eastern U.S. We bought the cottage years ago as a perfect escape from the busyness of Atlanta. Now we want to share it with you. We have no pool tables or hot tubs or wii's. We DO have a great private dock, books, dvd's, and a place to simply unwind without all the usual distractions of home. Swim from our private dock. (Bring your snorkle gear ... i usually see fish when I snorkle around our dock ... the water is crystal clear) Bring your boat (ramp is 2 minutes away) or rent one from Lakes End Marina (or use our canoe). Kids love our dock, the many streams to wade in, and places to hike and explore (we're practically surrounded by the Nantahala National Forest). Parents love the quiet setting, our collection of books and movies, and the fact that your cell phone won't work up here! There are great restaurants 20 minutes by car (or ride your boat across the water to Lake's End Grill), a Super Walmart in Murphy (35 minutes away) for supplies, hiking trails all around (the Appalachian Trail is 20 minutes away), whitewater rafting close by, and lots of places to wander. The post and beam interior was constructed from whole white oak posts and rough sawn white pine beams, which mostly came from the house site as well. The custom designed doors, kitchen cabinets and the one of a kind kitchen table were all hand made from an ancient black walnut tree that was blown down by a storm that passed through Andrews, NC in May of 2002. The Nantahala area has a lot to offer families who want to create wonderful memories! Entertainment enthusiasts will enjoy the Mountainside Theater, located in the heart of Cherokee Indian Country. At 3000 feet above sea level, the summers are cool and comfortable. You will probably want to use a blanket for sleeping, even in the summer. It is located between Andrews and Franklin, NC in Macon County. It is about a 2-3 hour drive from Atlanta, Asheville, Knoxville and Chattanooga. There are plenty of things to do in the area. The Nantahala River below Nantahala Dam is a world-famous delayed harvest trout stream. Fly fishers from all over the world come to the Nantahala. Kayaking, Canoeing and Rafting are available as well. The Nantahala River was the venue for kayaking in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Nantahala Lake is known for smallmouth bass, trout, walleye and it has even been stocked with salmon! The Appalachian Trail crosses Wayah Road about 8 miles from the house. The Bartram Trail is even closer. The rafting and kayaking put-in on the Nantahala River is about 15 miles from the cabin, with the takeout point being at the Nantahala Outdoor Center, downstream. Harrah’s Cherokee Casino (about an hour away) offers gambling and world-class entertainment acts. When you all gather back home at the end of the day, you can cook dinner on the gas grill on the upper deck, enjoy an amazing dinner, and take in the sunset over lake. Plus, you may be serenaded by the chirping frogs! After dinner, you can head inside to gather around one of the two gas fireplaces and wrap yourselves up in some of the comfy throw blankets. Some of you might head downstairs for a game of pool or a movie. Sunset Point sleeps a total of twelve guests. Winter at the lake is a time of relaxation and recuperation. Snowfall can range from a light dusting to 8 inches, which makes drinking a warm cup of joe or cocoa all the more toasty! The wood fireplace keeps the place cozy while you read a good book, work on a project, or just lounge around and watch a good movie. While the temperatures are a bit more nippy in the winter (20-40 degrees during the day, 10-30 degrees at night), it certainly doesn't keep you from bundling up and hiking or star-gazing! A disclaimer for all Our home is nestled in one of the largest temperate rain forests in the world. It is surrounded by a lush green forest and immediately on the edge of a lake. It is truly "in the mountains". ----Please don't be surprised by bugs. We do our best to keep the house free of uninvited guests but rain forests have an amazing number of diverse and clever residents. These "natives" will disregard doors and window screens and occasionally will be found on the inside rather than outside of the house. --We enjoy the chance to "unplug" from the world while up on the lake. The marina features a wonderful restaurant, swimming, and boat, kyak and paddle board rentals. Charter a guided fishing trip at Bryant's Bait and Tackle just down the road or go white water rafting on the Nantahala River. Crows Nest Cabin is just 30 minutes away from the Nantahala Outdoor Center for rafting and Zip Line tours and just minutes from the Bartram and Appalachian trails. This home features a woodstove and several decks with mountain and lake views. All the basic amenities you will need to enjoy local attractions. While quite rustic we find the cabin cozy and comfortable with all you will need to enjoy all the activities the area has to offer. The main floor features a front porch with beautiful mountain views and seasonal lake views. An open kitchen, living and dining area features a woodstove. The kitchen has a full stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker and all the basics for cooking and dining. There is a television in the living area (bring your own firsetic or thumb drive as there is no cable or internet access at the cabin). The main floor also includes a half-bath. The upstairs is a spacious loft with private balcony overlooking the mountains with a lake view. A queen bed and full bed are located in the loft as well as a full bath. The basement and attic are for maintenance/ storage and nost accessible to guests. The home includes a 1 car garage which we ask that guests use at their own risk as it is unlit and all may not be accustomed to mountain parking. This home does not have phone or internet access. The lake has salmon (only one on the east coast), walleye, pike, lake trout, brown trout, bluegill, crappie, and smallmouth and largemouth bass. The average salmon in Nantahala is 18". The lake flows into Nantahala Gorge which also offers great fly fishing too. You can also rent a ski, fishing or pontoon boat from The Lakes End Marina by calling 828-321-3001. Also Jeff at 321-828-BOAT, Nantahala Marine rents boats and will actually bring them to the dock and meet you which really makes it easy. Breathtaking view of the Lake! Very convenient to lake, restaurant/marina allows public swimming and general store! All in walking distance! At our private lake shore area enjoy swimming, canoeing fishing, etc. This guest cabin home is totally remodeled, with new kitchen appliances, washer and dryer, and is totally private from our near by trailer. View from kitchen is inspiring! Ten-by-28-foot covered porch is great for entertaining. Stair steps off of deck go to the private road down, then across Wayah road, then to the lake. The sunset views are awesome from this property! A great relaxing place to enjoy the water and views of Nantahala on a budget!

Due to our remote location, we do not get a cell signal in the chalet (although sometimes in the driveway)& (We do at the gas station and marina approx. 5 mins. away.) We have a landline with free long distance in the continental U.S. It is not necessary to have a four wheel drive vehicle .Please put vehicle in low gear and proceed at 10 mph and you will have no problem!...take Rhododendron (starting ascent up mountain and do not use any other directions)to Hemlock and then follow "Bear Rock Chalet" signs! Absolutely no smoking inside the chalet, please.
